In Brazil, volunteers from the NGO’s Aprisco and Visão Restaurar have been responding quickly to the difficulties facing residents of a favela in Rio de Janeiro; whose need to socially isolate conflicted with the equally pressing need to feed their families.
We began by mapping our community and identifying 132 families in urgent need to help first.
Since March, they have supported over 1,000 families through donations of food parcels and hygiene supplies and have engaged with other support networks which include individuals, NGOs and small businesses.
The volunteers are now also distributing protective masks throughout the area and their project has also been featured on national TV channels to help raise awareness.
